How to Create a File/Folder using a Colon ( : ) in the File/Folder Name?

So many of us may have noticed that we cannot give a name to the file/folder using colon ( : ) but there is an easy way to do that. You just have to do one thing. There is a Unicode character called a Modifier Letter Colon that is given below. Copy one of them and paste it wherever you want. Enjoy!

How to add app shortcuts to the Start menu manually on Windows 10

Did you install an app and isn't appearing in the All apps list? If so, in this guide, we'll show you the steps to manually add a shortcut to the Start menu on Windows 10.

On Windows 10, as part of the installation process, apps usually add a shortcut or folder in the Start menu to make easier to open them. However, some apps are not capable of registering themselves to appear in the "All apps" list, such as portable and very old apps.

If you have an app that doesn't have a shortcut in this list, it's possible to create a shortcut to quickly find and open the app using the Start menu.

In this Windows 10 guide, we'll walk you through the easy steps to add an app entry to the All apps list manually.
How to add an app to the Start menu's All apps list

Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.

Type the following path and click OK:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Using the Windows key + Right arrow keyboard shortcut snap the window to the right. Browse to the location of the app, where the .exe file is located. Using the Windows key + Left arrow keyboard shortcut snap the window with the application files to the left. Right-click, hold, drag and drop the .exe file that launch the apps to the Programs folder on the right.

Select Create shortcuts here from the context menu.

Right-click the shortcut, select Rename, and name the shortcut exactly how you want it to appear in the All apps list.

Repeat the steps for all the apps you want to add to the list.

Restart your computer to apply the changes in the Start menu.

Once you've completed the steps, simply open the Start menu and the list will now show the new app shortcut.

You can also use these instructions to create shortcuts for apps that create folders with a bunch of links (e.g., Apple's iTunes and 7-Zip). This way you can click the letter at the top of the group to use the index to quickly jump to the app without having to drill-down through the folder to open it.

Hidden Tricks Inside Windows 10

Secret Start Menu
Image

If you're a fan of that old-school (i.e. non-tiled) Start menu experience, you can still have it—sorta. If you right-click on the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner, it will prompt a textual jump menu with a number of familiar popular destinations (Programs and Features, Search, Run). All these options are available through the standard menu interface, but you'll be able to access them quicker through this textual interface

Hidden Tricks Inside Windows 10

Secret Desktop Button

Image

This desktop button actually dates back to Windows 7, but I embarrassingly only recently found out about it. On the bottom-right corner of your page, there's a secret desktop button. Don't see it? Look allll the way to the bottom and right, to the side of the date and time. There you'll find a small little sliver of an invisible button. Click that and it will minimize all your open windows to clear the desktop. You can change the behavior of this in Settings, between having to click or just having to hover the mouse over the corner.

Hidden Tricks Inside Windows 10

Rotate Your Screen via Keyboard Ctrl-Alt-D Arrows

Image

This tip won't be useful to most of y'all, but you can rotate your screen by simultaneously pressing Ctrl + Alt + D and any of the arrow buttons. The down arrow will flip it upside down, the left or right arrow buttons will turn it 90 degrees on its side, and the up arrow will bring you back to standard orientation. If you use multiple displays, this feature allows you to orient just that display in a particular way.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the desktop background > Graphics Options > Rotation to turn your page around in all sorts of ways. This feature is available on Windows 7 and 10.

Hidden Tricks Inside Windows 10

Enable Slide to Shutdown

Image

This trick only works on Windows 10 as far as I can tell. It's complicated and probably not worth the effort for what you get out of it, but here you go:

Right-click on the desktop > New > Shortcut. In the ensuing pop-up window, paste the following line of code:

%windir%\System32\SlideToShutDown.exe

This creates a clickable icon on your desktop, which you can feel free to rename to whatever you'd like. To shut down via slide-down, double-click on the new icon to prompt a pull-down shade. Then use your mouse to drag it down to the bottom of the screen. Keep in mind, this isn't sleep, this is a shutdown
